Joshua Tree is a beautiful, amazing park with a profound light pollution problem. In this vertical panorama I tried to subdue the light pollution a bit with the Astronomik CLS-CCD clip filter for my Canon 6D, which I think did a really good job of allowing me to image some of the Milky Way that would normally be washed out by light pollution.

I placed a couple of static lights to the left in an effort add some depth to the foreground. I also focus-stacked the immediate foreground with multiple exposures to ensure full depth of field.

The Milky Way (and airglow!) emerge from the sky as astronomical twilight fades into the night. Vertical panorama taken with a full-spectrum Canon 6D, taken in eastern Oregon in July of this year.

Here's another long exposure from one of my favorite little town's for doing these kind of shots: Astoria, Oregon.

Summer may not be over, but it's starting to feel like it's over. Which means I should probably finish processing some of my photos from last winter before I start taking new ones, right?

Here's an attempt at getting caught up: This is a vertical panorama taken last February, no stacking, no compositing, just a vertical panorama on a full-spectrum camera. The lights in the background are crab boats, I think. And they're freaking bright!

I finished working on a 360x180 from these files, so I also decided to pull this strangely warped (because of the projection) flat representation of the scene. (On a separate note: I really don't like the way Flickr renders 360x180 panos: For some reason there's a glitch occurring at the zenith of my last upload, despite that glitch not showing up in any other 360 viewers, Facebook included).
