Die Stockente (Anas platyrhynchos) ist eine Vogelart aus der Familie der Entenvögel (Anatidae).
Die Stockente ist die größte und am häufigsten vorkommende Schwimmente Europas und die Stammform der Hausente. Ausgewachsene Männchen im Balzkleid sind mit ihrem grünmetallischen Kopf, dem gelben Schnabel und dem weißen Halsring unverwechselbar, die Weibchen sind unscheinbarer hellbraun mit orangenem Schnabel.

The mallard is the largest and most abundant swimmers in Europe and the parent form of the duck. Grown-up males in their courtship dress are unmistakable with their green metallic head, yellow beak and white neck ring, the females are inconspicuously light brown with an orange beak.
