This boat was built in 1965 by
Maxon Construction Co.,
Tell City, Indiana.
It is owned by the U.S. Coast Guard and, together with the crane barge "CGB-76", serves as a
river buoy tender maintaining navigational aids (buoys, lights and daymarks) on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.
CGC stands for "Coast Guard Cutter" and CGB stands for "Coast Guard Barge".
The Coast Guard designation "WLR" in the documentation number means Coast Guard vessel (W), tender (L) and river (R).
At time of this photo (Oct. 1992), the "Chippewa" operated out of Owensboro, Kentucky, but more recently has had a home port near Buchanan, Tennessee, on the Tennessee River.
It was still in service as of 2020.

The twin-screw towboat "Pere Marquette" (110 x 34 feet, GM diesels, 3050 hp) was built in 1975 by
Dravo for Inland Oil and Transport Co.
Originally named "Lady Frances," the boat did not enter service until 1978, when it was acquired by Marquette Transportation Co., Cassville, Wisconsin, and renamed "Pere Marquette."
In 1988 the boat was sold to National Marine and at time of this photo (Oct. 1992) was leased to Capital Towing Corp., Houston, Texas. In 1998 the boat was sold to American Commercial Barge Line, Jeffersonville, Indiana, and in 2006 renamed "Joseph M. Hamilton".
