88D486 - Members of the Louisville Rowing Club giving rowing lessons on the Ohio River at Riverview Park, Louisville, Kentucky, Ohio River mile 611 during the Festival at Riverport. In the foreground is a two-man Sea Shell and right of center is a Jullien single. Of particular interest is the wooden four-man (with coxswain) racing shell, called a coxed four. The coxswain, or cox, sits in the stern, facing forward, and steers the boat. He has a good view of the racecourse and the competition and advises the rowers of the best cadence for the circumstances.
