Kim and I spent a day in Vienna. Martin, one of my first Flickr contacts, lives in Vienna, so I thought that it would be cool to vist face-to-face. Martin, Suzie, Kim and I spent most of the day together, wandering around Vienna and talking. I don't remember the last time I became so close with people so quickly. Too soon, the day was over, and we had to part ways. The snow was falling, like it might at the end of some sappy movie, as we bid good-bye and they got onto the tram.

We spent several hours wandering the Zentralfriedhof, the place to be buried in Austria. With 3.3 millions interred there, there are more people buried in the Zentralfriedhof than currently live in Vienna (population 1.7 million). I wanted to see Falco's grave, but no one wanted to pay 20 euro for a map :-) We finally gave in and asked for directions. When we found it, we had a good laugh, as we had walked right past it earlier. I was disappointed that his grave was not closer to the other famous Austrian musicians buried there ;-)

The directions that we got were probably good, but the layout of a place that has over three million graves can make for some confusion. Fortunately, we discovered that we are not the first to go looking for Falco's grave.

So, yes, I'm back. I'd like to say that Kim and I have been wandering Europe for the past week, but that wouldn't be exactly true. We spent a week helping out at a conference in Sopron, Hungary, then spent the Saturday before we left seeing a little bit of Vienna.
Falco was born on February 19th, which is a partial explanation of all of the stuff around his grave.
