Gustave Eiffel (1832-1923) is best known for the Parisian tower that bears his name. However, the French civil engineer played a key role in the construction of the world-famous Statue of Liberty.

In 2020, a set of Eiffel’s original schematic drawings and blueprints for Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi’s statue were found among some of Eiffel's papers purchased at auction. These were long thought destroyed or lost forever.

There are about 60 drawings in total. You can find them all here:

Smithsonian magazine wrote a story of how this cache of drawings were found. Interestingly, the drawings suggest a last-minute change to Lady Liberty’s upraised, torch-bearing arm. You can read the story here:

An ancient Roman bridge spans the Wadi al Murr in Mosul, Iraq, 1920. Photograph by M. V. Oppenheim, National Geographic.

Note: This is most probably just the central arch. The full bridge would have been something like this:

In any case, the “bridge” was built around 1215 A.D. to connect Mosul to Turkey and Syria. Today, it is in danger of collapse due to erosion and neglect.

Here’s a 2-min video that provides more detail:
