2023.02.12 Nikon Z9 meets the Rodenstock TV-Heligon 50mm f/0.75. This bespoke adapter is focusable and allows the lens to reach infinity focus. That makes the lens approach its f/0.75 effective aperture as well, making it harder to use in sunshine unless one can use the low ISO settings on the Z9 and its very fast shutter speeds. Reasonably good image quality remains for around 25-30% of the FX image thus Z9 is operating as a 12-16MPix system with this lens. Using the Rodenstock makes for a lot of fun for the photographer albeit working the lens is a slow process with a steep learning curve.

Recently, I tidied up my travel SSD drive in preparation for an upcoming visit to a friend in Andalusia, Spain, and found this image. I have no idea what is the underlying reality as no notes had been kept. EXIF said an 'X-ray' lens was used on my Z9, but I'll ditch that mundane tidbit of information and think I captured the fleeting image of an Astral Voyager :)

Heavy snow fall causes a white-out that softens and blurs all buildings and landscape. Focus is on the large Scots Pine tree in the foreground. The image takes on a painterly quality. Using the ultrafast De Oude Delft Rayxar 50mm f/0.75, it was possible to capture the scene even in the darkness. Image circle is around 26mm. so a large part of the FX frame is useful.
