During a drive out to Falcon Lake, looking for Bald Eagles, I came across this immature Bald Eagle situated at the top of this evergreen... he was quite hard to see with the trees in the background (unlike his older cousins... their white heads tend to give them away)...
A fair bit of cropping on this one, but I think in the end it turned out alright...

The most photographed birds in Winnipeg this spring are these two in Assiniboine Park.
A pair of Great Horned Owls have returned to the park and nested, and have one owlet to show for their efforts... this owlet can be seen quite clearly and therefore there is always a number of photographers there taking their pictures...
In this shot, the owlet is flanked by mom, while dad is resting in a tree some 60' away...

It is expected that these three owls will be around for another week or two, and then once the youngster is able to fly, they will be far more difficult to find in the area...

This Northern Hawk Owl had been hanging around in southern Winnipeg for a few weeks back in February 2010... on this particular day I was able to get quite close to it and get a number of good shots including this one... unfortunately it was a very dull and overcast day...
This particular shot was taken while standing relatively below her as she was looking down at me...

Another successful outing was rewarded with a number of shots of this Snowy Owl that I came across near Arnaud Manitoba.... after perching on a hydro pole he flew down and perched atop a stop sign... He allowed me to get quite close to get a number of good shots on this lower perch...
