Note - Both Australian Geissois species have recently been placed in the genus Karrabina.
Family : Cunoniaceae
Stunning red/maroon newgrowth over the top of this tree is a spectacular feature at summers end. Needs water at this time to prevent the newgrowth burning off while the leaves toughen up but it can tolerate full sun and does make an excellent park tree, being too large for the average home garden.
Pale yellow flowers appear in mid summer before this newgrowth spurt.Seed is a thin pointed capsule and ripe from May to July.
A very large tree with heavy buttressing.
Best suited to cooler mountainous areas from Taree to Mt Tamborine.
