We were driving to our motel in Beach Street, Fitzroy Beach, a beachside suburb of New Plymouth, and saw a sunset coming on. At the end of the street this magnificent sunset beckoned us from high ground above Eastend Reserve.
I believe the islands to be the "Sugar Loaves" as apparently named by Captain James Cook in 1770 with complete disregard to their native name of Ngamotu.
These Islands are part of what is now the
Sugar Loaf Islands Marine Reserve, gazetted in 1986 and strengthened in 1991.
Not sure if this is Motumahanga Island or Moturoa Island.
