Additional to its yellow flowers this tree exhibits impressive flushes of cream to pink delicate new growth and its fine leaves and surprising drought tolerance make it a good choice for rainforest plantings.Unfortunately in some Northern NSW and South East Queensland locations it can become invasive.
This particular tree,growing at Misty Glen,Bellingen appears to be an infertile male tree and does not produce seed.Cuttings taken from this tree could overcome the problems posed by its invasive potential.Unfortunately so far successful take up of cuttings has been poor.

Family : Araliaceae
Delarbrea michieana is a small, slender understorey tree, closely
resembling a palm with its bare trunk topped by a crown of compound leaves up to 80 cm long. Below these hang large bunches of irridescent blue berries.
Endemic to the North Queensland tropics between Tully and Cooktown from sea level to 1100m.
For this reason it does well on the Mid North Coast and many plants I saw at Misty Glen at Bellingen were fruiting nicely and favoured by the brush turkeys. My own trees are not yet fruiting (April 2008) but can't be far off it.
It is best suited to planting in groups in the shade of larger trees, and requires regular watering.

This tree was in stunning flower and was probably at its maximum size on the entrance to Bellingen opposite the Golf course.
