I recently attended the Australian National Schools Canoeing Championships held at the Nymboida Canoe Centre on Goolang Creek, a tributary of the Nymboida River.
We stayed in excellent accommodation here at the Nymboida Coaching Station Inn. I was informed that the historic Inn was owned by Russell Crowe.
The Championships co- incided with the period of serious floods which tragically impacted on Northern NSW and South East Queensland in Mid January 2011.
The water levels in Goolang Creek, a tributary of the Nymboida River, are normally able to be controlled by a weir at the start of Goolang Creek but rising waters certainly tested the skills of the large contingent of Australian and international guest canoeists in attendance.
