What a peaceful place the Falls Forest Retreat is. Set in tall Eucalyptus grandis forest and subtropical rainforest this idyllic property is tucked in under the southern side of Middle Brother Mountain at Johns River on the NSW Mid North Coast just to the north of Taree.
Falls Forest Retreat is both a conference centre and also provides overnight and weekly accommodation and is only 15 minutes off the Pacific Highway.
The Falls Retreat, as it is otherwise known, is owned by Mary E White, noted Paleobotanical author who, commencing in her later years, has written a series of very important books focusing on the perilous state of our planet.
I have visited Falls Forest Retreat several times over the last few years and am always in admiration for Mary White who apart from her inspirational books, has worked tirelessly to tie up all the land around this little piece of paradise in various conservation agreements, sometimes at not inconsiderable personal expense.
Mary believes the property may well be the southern most limit for several rainforest species including Elaeocarpus grandis and Cuttsia viburnea to mention a couple.
Mary E White is now in her mid 80's and I have heard a rumour that this magnificent property may be coming onto the market.
