Notes: the occasion was the official opening of extensions to the Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital. HRH, Henry Duke of Gloucester was at that time the Governor General of Australia (1945-47).

At rear - the Duke and Mayor Freelander, front - the Duchess and Matron Taylor.

The one-armed man on the right is Major Michael Babbington Hawkins, A.D.C. to the Governor-General, the Duke of Gloucester. Formerly of the 10th Hussars (Duke of Gloucester's Regiment), he fought in Libya, where he lost his arm. Before taking up his new appointment, Major Hawkins was on General Alexander's staff in Italy.
