Osmar White left Katoomba in 1928 on assignment in PNG and SE Asia, returning in 1933, he drops off the Katoomba electoral roll after 1934. In 1937 he married Olive Allen in N.Z. In 1942 he was posted to PNG as war correspondent and in 1944 was attached to Gen. Patton's Third Army, where he covered the German surrender and was one of the first journalists to enter Buchenwald. Osmar White has been described as "not only one of the finest correspondents of the Second World War but a visionary writer and philosopher of courage and conviction." - Phillip Knightley
