Scotland as a country has so much to offer the photographer and digital artist and I have to say that I have been very spoiled by managing over the years to make many journeys into the Highlands but I have been a little guilty of neglecting the lowlands to the south of the country. During the course of this year I am aiming to put that right because just recently I took a journey into the Galloway Forest and along the banks of Loch Doon. I travelled beyong the proper tarmac road and onto the dirt tracks and I haven't felt so inspired to look at things so differently in a long time. If you come to Scotland, don't miss out on the beauty and subtlety that the south of Scotland has to offer. In this picture we are viewing Loch Doon from the north west to the south east and this location is a very short drive from one of Scotlands Dark Sky projects as it is unspoiled for stargazing by light pollution.

Carrick Gala is a small tumbling river that flows into Loch Doon in the Galloway Forest Park in South Ayrshire, Scotlad. When this was shot, it was right on the back of Storm Henry. Normally this is a very gentle trickling stream of water and I have never seen it this much of a torrent before but given the amount of rain we have had falling on us this last month or so I am really not surprised.

I think most of you who follow my photo journey know of my love of the highlands of Scotland, however, recent weather hasn't been too kind for me to head off that way. What do you do when you can't get to the highlands? Well in my case, I head for the hills of the lowlands. This photo was captured in the Galloway Forest Park which is run by the Forestry Commision. Underneath this little bridge is the Carrick Gala which was flowing harder and faster than I have ever seen before, a testimony to the amount of rain mother nature has thrown in our direction this winter.

The Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park is located on the west coast of Scotland and is home to some very diverse nature. I shot this one today "New Year 2016".
