It was said that a new person had appeared on the sea-front: a lady with a little dog. Dmitri Dmitritch Gurov, who had by then been a fortnight at Yalta, and so was fairly at home there, had begun to take an interest in new arrivals. Sitting in Verney's pavilion, he saw, walking on the sea-front, a fair-haired young lady of medium height, wearing a béret; a white Pomeranian dog was running behind her.

And afterwards he met her in the public gardens and in the square several times a day. She was walking alone, always wearing the same béret, and always with the same white dog; no one knew who she was, and every one called her simply "the lady with the dog."...

Stefano Casiraghi (8 September 1960 – 3 October 1990) was an Italian sportsman, heir, socialite and businessman. On 29 December 1983, he and Princess Caroline of Monaco married in a civil ceremony in the Hall of Mirrors of the Monegasque royal palace. They were not able to have a religious ceremony due to the fact that Caroline was still married to Philippe Junot in the eyes of the Catholic Church. However, as Caroline was over three months pregnant, the couple did not want to wait any longer. The couple had three children; Andrea, Charlotte and Pierre. Her father, Prince Rainier was by all accounts initially suspicious of his new son-in-law as were many others. The Italian papers called Casiraghi "Carolino" and portrayed him as a mere plaything for his wife, but he surprised everyone by becoming a very powerful man in Monaco in a very short time. By the time of his death, he had emerged from the shadow of Prince Rainier's suspicion and become highly valued by his father-in-law for his business sense and discretion. Casiraghi was killed in an offshore powerboat racing accident off the coast of Monaco near Cap Ferrat on 3 October 1990 while defending his world offshore title. He was just 30 years old and had planned to retire after this race...

Monaco-Ville, also known locally as "le rocher" or "the rock", is one of the four traditional quartiers or quarters of Monaco, the others being La Condamine, Monte Carlo, and Fontvieille. Monaco-Ville is an old fortified town-—some of the city walls still remain—-and is situated on a rocky promontory that extends into the Mediterranean Sea. Despite being located in the world's most densely populated country, Monaco-Ville is still a medieval village at heart, made up almost entirely of quiet pedestrian streets and marked by virtual silence after sundown. Though innumerable people visit Monaco-Ville and the palace square, only local vehicles are allowed up to the rock, and gasoline-powered motorcycles are prohibited after 10 pm...

Prenons-nous la main
Le long de la route
Choisissons nos destins
Sans plus aucun doute
J'ai foi et ce n'est rien
Qu'une question d'écoute
D'ouvrir grand nos petites mains
Coûte que coûte...
