This is the first bridge out to the elevator, you can see the bridges in the previous photo titled "Katarinahissen (Katarina elevator) - 1.

Continuing with the series of photos centering around the iconic Stockholm elevator Katarinahissen. There is a link below to a short video from 1908 showing the elevator.

A brief history :
The Katarina lift is a 38 meter high public passenger lift in the Slussen area on Södermalm in Stockholm . The facility connects Katarinavägen at Slussen via two footbridges with Mosebacke torg . The current lift was inaugurated in 1936. The lift was closed for replacement, renovation and repair between 2010 and 2023.

The original elevator was called the Elevatorn. The inauguration took place at 11:00 a.m. on March 19, 1883, and during the first month, approximately 1,500 people rode the elevator daily (for a small fee). As early as the 1890s, the old Katarina lift's tall tower and excellent display location over large parts of Gamla stan were used to set up advertisements for various products. There were still painted signs advertising "Winborgs", "Wimans Ventiler", "Halda Fickur" and "Julius Slöör". In 1909, the Stomatolskylten , which was Sweden's first moving illuminated sign , was put up on the upper part of the elevator. Since 1933, the sign has been placed on a nearby building at Klevgränd 1B.

The first Katarina lift was taken out of service on 28 May 1933 and demolished at the beginning of July of the same year, in connection with the construction of the new traffic junction Slussen . A new lift was built in the same place and it was completed in 1936. It became part of the KF building which was built at the same time. The new elevator was a functionalist truss construction in steel designed by the architects Eskil Sundahl and Olof Thunström of the Cooperative's architectural office . The designer was civil engineer Hjalmar Granholm and the construction was carried out by Byggnadsfirman Zetterberg AB . The lift system itself was supplied by ASEA Lifts (now part of ABB - Asea Brown Boveri).
