Crossing the border of Bosnia, venturing toward Srebrenica, for the 12th anniversary of the notorious Srebrenica massacre. Sometime in the late 90s, this former guardhouse caught a lot of small-arms fire and probably a mortar. It would be the work of a few hours to fully demolish this weed-grown wreck, but for some reason the locals seem to prefer these sinister mementos standing in place, even when every journalist, bureaucrat, diplomat, daffy backpacker and harmless tourist wandering through the checkpoint is sure to have a long contemplative stare.
