A quiet morning along Tomales Bay. A lesson in the ultimate state of rest.

Silver Lake and the home of Kit Carson Lodge. Elevation 7300 ft. It was early June and the water was cold. It didn't stop my two Labrador Retrievers from having a go at it.

Looking through the window at the chaos of taking things a part while the outside word reflects passively along the top of the photo.

If you drive north out of San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge you'll quickly see the turn-off for the Marin Headlands. The road snakes through the coastal hills and through a one lane tunnel that spits you out on to a road that used to be part of the west coast defense system. Follow the road uphill to the parking lot for the Point Bonita Lighthouse. Flick a spitball and light out on whatever trail it lands upon. You're sure to find a breathtaking view.

This is the view looking north across Rodeo Cove. That's old Fort Barry basking in the morning sunlight.

The prescription for silence is to head to a rural place find a dirt road and light out until civilization has been left in the dust. Kill the engine and jump out of the car. Once the engine cools and ceases to pop and groan you'll be left with the whisper of the wind as it kisses the tops of the brush and the sweet sound of the birds. Who knows, you might even quiet your mind a tad.

Go even bigger by giving it a whack on black.
