Today it's time to step away from autumn for a bit and delve into the beauty of downtown Vancouver. I love all the busy detail and color in this scene. Vancouver is splendidly eclectic with a great vibe to it. It's a great place to spend a little time. It would be great to have a condo overlooking the water. But that would take some $$$ and I think it's a little cold for living on the streets.
Whaddya think Nadine?

Margaret loves the charm of Vancouver. Before the ship sailed we stood on the deck admiring the view and snapping a few pictures. Marg was wondering what the price of a condo would be here and I good see that she was busily doing the calculations in her head as to whether we could afford it or not. Of course she generally reaches a different conclusion than I do. I'll leave it at that.

It was late afternoon when we steamed out of Vancouver. We were full of wild optimism. Our bags were stowed safely in our rooms, our bellies were warm after a tasty lunch, and my first scotch and soda was working it's magic. We were on our way to a world of icebergs, whales, wild scenery, and ultimately the grand prize--Denali. I'm sure that Gilligan and the passengers of the Minnow felt much the same. Little did we know that life was about to throw us one of those hard breaking curve balls.

These windows in the Macy's building at Union Square in San Francisco remind me of that old T.V. game show called "Hollywood Squares." When I was a teenager, staying home sick from school always meant a morning lounging on the couch and engaging in a little T.V. game show watching. There was Concentration, Jeopardy, The Price is Right and my personal favorite, yep, "Hollywood Squares." Basically the viewer looked at a 3X3 panel, each panel being occupied by a celebrity. A question was posed, each panel member provided an answer, and the contestant would have to determine which answer was the right one. I remember good old Paul Lynde would give the most hilarious answers. I never could figure out what made that guy a celebrity but he sure was funny. No wonder my mind has turned to mush. Anyway, enough of the that. This is my Slider's Sunday entry for the week and think of it what you will. I've included the original uncropped image for perspective.
Happy Slider's Sunday Everyone.

It's so easy to get lost in the corporate personification of our lives. Life was surely much simpler when we wore skins and clubbed animals for our dinner. But then again, every age has had it's pressures. I remember reading Theodora Kroeber's book about Ishi, the last member of the Yahi tribe in Northern California. Alone and starving, Ishi was captured in 1911 at age 49 attempting to steal meat near Oroville, CA. Alfred Kroeber (Theodora's husband) championed his cause and eventually brought him to UC Berkeley where Ishi lived out the remainder of his life. I can't imagine being the sole survivor of an ancient tribe of people. What that must feel like. It was interesting to note the things that Ishi believed were modern civilization's greatest achievements--the safety pin and the match. Not much Pop Culture in that me thinks.
