Winter in the Sacramento Valley just north of Colusa. The fields lie fallow. The graze land is yellow and depleted of grass. The trees tend to live along the roads here. At this time of the year, they're a wispy bunch, but no less beautiful for it. Winter is a simple time in the valley--a .season where the earth quietly bides it time, in no hurry to move toward anything in particular.

A working truck motors along the Colusa Highway north of the town of Colusa. I like the concept of the truck but I don't like following one down a narrow, two-lane country road. My wife was born in the central valley and has a rather egressive kamikaze style when it comes to passing other vehicles on these roads. She thinks I'm a real milk-toast because I prefer to hang back, turn up the music, and gawk at the scenery. And that's all I have say about any of this.

Cruising Colusa County with the car windows up. Despite all the warm golden tones, it gets quite cold in the valley during the winter months. Tule fog is also common at this time of the year. Anyone who has driven a few miles in it, with almost zero visibility, knows what I'm talking about. But on this day, there was none of that to worry about.

Here in Colusa County, perfectly plowed fields lie ready for spring planting. There's a bit of artwork that goes into plowing a field like this me thinks.
Since I've been posting images of the California Central Valley over the past few days, I figure I should at least post one that shows what the valley is all about-- and that is food. There are a lot of components to the central valley but the main one is farming--good old farming, the livelihood that ensures the rest of us can continue to eat.
