The location of the English Girls' College can be seen on the map.
Please note that when we moved in {1937/8 ] the street was called Sir Miles Lampson - yet here in 1934/1935 it is called Shara Octavian Augustus!!!

Many EGC girls came to school by tram unescorted.
The bottom half of the map [under the double lines] connects with the top right-hand side of the top half, however the bottom half is at a smaller scale than the top half.
I have marked the stops for my home {top map}; English Girls' College, Memphis Preparatory School and Victoria College and San Stefano, the site of the school in World War 2.
The Alexandria tram system was founded in 1860:

The semi-circular drive up to the entrance will be remembered by all who went to the EGC; also, the wonderful wooden doors and last but probably foremost - Salah's welcoming face and smile. He personified everyone's great loyalty to the EGC.
What exactly was in the Tower? I never asked and do not know.

This drawing gives an excellent view of the school, with the curved driveway, the central courtyard and the spacious grounds.
The Hall can be seen jutting out on the far left - used for daily assembly, prize-giving, exams, school plays etc
The kindergarten was the curvy building jutting out at the top of the picture.

This is the dramatic view of the completed building in 1937 when the girls and staff moved in. They had been taught at the beautiful Villa Zervudachi in Zizinia whilst the building work proceeded, as the school opened to pupils in 1935 before these buildings were completed.
Today, in 2007, the skyline is full of high-rise buildings
The swings we played on are clearly visible!
