John was sitting on the pavement in Bridge Street, Cambridge when I approached him. He looked a bit down (emotionally as well as physically). He had a square sheet of cloth in front of him on which he had various bits of jewellary. "There's more money if you beg, mate," he croaked in a voice that would take you back to Dicken's days. "I'm trying to sell these and they ignore me." Sure enough the passerbys did just that. Who wants to look straight in the eye of a tramp-like figure? Well I did! We chatted a while and he gave me this slight twitch of a smile. I focussed straight into his right eye but the lighting was terrible and I just managed this capture (I hate flash). I did buy two bracelets from him, which he said his sister makes in Northampton (that's where he is from). He himself moves from town to town. Meeting him gave me plenty to think about all night long.

Excuse me, can you move your head this way a bit? "Ooo, you're gonna take a picture of me?" No, the pattern behind you!
