2009 Review. And so we reach October! The beginning of the year. In Cambridge the year begins in October and not in January as for ordinary folk. The year begins with the appointment of University officers. Here are the "policemen" (or policepersons, to be pc for the pc's:-) The focus was on Bernie, the one with the big truncheon marked "P". Er, "P" for... :-))

Pembroke College, University of Cambridge. Charles Melville shortly after his inaugural lecture as the newly appointed Professor of Persian History. He gave his own account of arriving in Cambridge forty years ago and his interest in earthquakes in Iran and Persian miniatures. He is a Fellow of Pembroke College: www.pem.cam.ac.uk/about/fellows/viewperson.html?id=50 . He joins a long line of distinguished Cambridge Arabic and Persian scholars: AJ Arberry, EG Browne, and RA Nicholson, to name a few. Congrats, Charles:-)
