Built as a 54' 7-compartment 'birdcage' Brake Composite (2nd/3rd) by the SECR in 1911 at Ashford, when transferred to the IoW in 1949 by BR(SR) it was converted at Lancing to a 4-compartment Brake 3rd to create a larger luggage van whilst the guard's birdcage was removed because of the restricted loading gauge.
