SECR Wainwright Class "P" 0-6-0T No.753 (later SR No.A556; then 1556; BR No.31556) "Pride of Sussex". In WWI it was sequestrated by the ROD and operated in France from Boulogne. The SR loaned the loco to the K&ESR in 1930. When withdrawn by BR as Brighton Shed Pilot in 1961, it was the last "P" in service. It was then bought for preservation and restoration on the K&ESR. At Rolvenden, 12/72. Scanned photograph taken with a Kowa SET.

Originally LBSCR Stroudley Class "A1" 0-6-0T built at the LBSCR's Brighton Works in 1872 as No.70 "Poplar"; in 1901 it was sold to the Rother Railway (later the Kent & East Sussex Railway) and became their No.3 "Bodiam" until it was withdrawn in 1931. However, due to an urgent need for more locos and the impovrished state of the railway, it was re-instated and rebuilt in 1932/33 into an "A1X". On nationalisation it became BR No.32670 and continued to work on the branch until BR moved it to the Hayling Island branch where it operated until withdrawn in 1963. The K&ESR bought it back in 1963 for preservation and restoration. The picture shows "Bodiam" on the "No.3 Bodiam Centenary 1872-1972" Special at Rolvenden, Kent & East Sussex Railway, 12/72. Scanned photograph taken with a Kowa SET.
