To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;

Hamlet, Act III, Scene I

Will

I have brought this photograph forward many times over many years now .... Happy 81st anniversary to my Mother and Father.

Dad passed in 1990 at the age of 79 and Mom in 2012 at the age of 99.

With apologies to my contacts, some of whom are seeing this photo for the fourth time, I am bringing this scanned photograph forward in my photostream once again in honour - this time - of what would have been my Mother and Father's 78th wedding anniversary - married April 10, 1934.

The original photo was taken circa 1949 (many years before I was born - well, several anyway :) and it is a hand painted black and white photo.

My Dad passed in 1990 however my Mom is celebrating her 99th birthday later this month. My Mother is Norwegian, born on a small island in the Norwegian county called Helgeland north of Trondheim. She stills lives on her own in the family home in British Columbia but is watched over by a myriad of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even several great great grandchildren. She is vibrant and more clever than ever!

My Father was a Welshman who claimed to be 1/2 Welsh, 1/2 Scottish and 1/2 Spanish (he would then quickly note for the listener that he wasn't very good at math :) There seems to be some truth to his claim given that some others in his family hinted at having both Scottish and Spanish ancestry going back to the 18th century? I suppose we will never know for sure.

Cheers to the unknown photographer!

Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad!

Each year when I visit my hometown, Prince Rupert, the cruise ship "Norwegian Star" docks and hordes of tourists pour off the boat to sample northwest B.C. for a few hours. I wander down to the landing and inevitably take this shot again (I've done it three years in a row) - the photographer caught photographing. Isolating a few cabins like this always reminds me of a film contact sheet - the lower cabins almost take on the look of being a row of televisions. If you look closely you can see a bit of me reflected in one of the windows :)

My first try at selective colour processing ... and, quite frankly, probably my last ... it isn't really my 'cup of tea.'

By special request for Huubke :)
