Given that I'm getting married in a year, I figured it was time to get comfortable on the other side of the camera, so I signed up for Bill Wadman's 365 Portraits. It's a brave, well-executed project, all the more so given that he's doing it just for the love, not any money.

As for me? Well, I actually had good reason to be carrying two cameras. I've been shooting two annual reports in three days, which means carting around most of my gear from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Working hard enough to change physiolgy -- my legs are very noticeably more muscular than they were on Wednesday.

10 years ago, at the Senior Tea, I clowned around Ashley, picking her up for a photo. Zach, of course, had to get in on the action. They were two photos that I treasured from that time, so we decided to relive them.

The good news, looking at the strain in my face from the 1996 photos, is that either Zach's gotten lighter or I've gotten stronger.

The wave of the future: I got a modern, full-frame Nikon camera in true mint condition for dirt cheap.

I picked up the F80 for a film class that, it turns out, I won't be taking. I'm keeping it for wedding clients who want B&W film options as well as digital.

Another advantage of the used market other than the staggeringly low price? More than logic dictates, I strongly prefer the name F80 (European model, which I bought) to the N80 (American). It makes it feel like it's part of the same price/performance continuum of the legendary F5 and F100.
