The gentleman in the photograph is John Smith, a Londoner who enjoyed both travel and photography. In the 1930s, he undertook several journeys to Scotland and the Continent in his trusted Morgan. On one occasion even crossing the Alps into Northern Italy. In the post-war years, he and his wife, Minna, travelled to Belgium, France and Germany in various Austin, Ford, and Citroën cars, always taking photos as they went along.
A few months ago, I was fortunate to purchase a stack of around 50 photographic prints from the Smiths' estate. Over the course of the next weeks, I will be posting them here on my flickr photostream.
