Flickr Lounge: macro
This was a fun workout for my new camera. It was tricky on several levels. One, anytime you're shooting stinging insects on macro, you are taking a risk of offending (though apparently paper wasps aren't nearly as easily offended as yellow jackets). Two, my footing wasn't the best. Three, choosing to use the Raynox lens makes for a shallow depth of field that is tricky enough for one insect, and using it to shoot two risks losing the shot. In fact it went back and forth on focus, sometimes having one wasp in focus, sometimes the other, sometimes both--and a couple of times I shot too quickly and got neither. But I ended up with a series of shots I really like.
Size of insect: about 3/4 inch long.
Having confirmed I'm ready for insect macro shots, bring on summer! :-)
