Hardly an expert on trilliums, in southern Indiana I have only seen the white ones at McCormick's Creek State Park. I wanted to go there this week, partly to find this flower, but wasn't able to. Instead, I made my way to a small but showy park, thinking I'd at least see flowing water and possibly the first spring beauty blossoms of the year. I was delighted to find white trilliums (lower bloom) . . . and surprised to find bloodroot (which I usually see just a touch later than the earliest spring blooms like the first spring beauty). I only saw two blooms of bloodroot, just inches apart, but one was paired with this trillium for a particularly lovely twosome. From this angle, they could almost both be blooming from the trillium plant, but the leaves of the bloodroot are under it.
