A male mourning dove offers its mate food or a tender caress with a gentle movement that looks like a kiss. Mourning doves are one of just a few bird species most commonly perching on the same branch with their mate.

Mourning doves nest nearly year round, and stay together in pairs year round. But the female (left) flew off the fence when her mate attempted a December breeding. THAT was too much to ask.
