I'm looking up some wildflowers I haven't seen in southern Indiana from my archives taken other places in the state.

Flickr Lounge: a favorite photo from my archives

I love the spirals in this sunflower. It was growing at the edge of a field of soybeans, not a deliberate planting. My hunch is the seed was dropped or buried by an animal. So . . . not a garden flower but not quite wild, either. This is what I have used as my photo on this site.

By the way, click on this shot to zoom in, and there's a lot more detail. For more wildflowers of the American Midwest and South, visit www.flickr.com/photos/cherylmolin/albums/7215770582469124...

I was photographing the green bee on chicory when the yellow one (probably a flower fly) flew in and made it a twofer.

Every part of this tiny little wildflower is purple; southern Indiana. Likely common storksbill (Erodium cicutarium) or filaree; HT to Sylvester.

My first photo to make it past 10 faves within 24 hours of posting (and then my first to make it to 25 Faves, etc.). I know that by Flickr standards that is hardly earth shattering, but I'm a hobbyist and I'd only been on here about a month. (A year and a half later it was my only top shot that hasn't been Explored or on Macro Monday.) Thank you to those who have faved and commented on the shot!
