One of my favorite cards to make and to give. It's very three-dimensional, with several places to open the card or a flap. The main template was taken from someone else's design, but I personalized it with extra flaps and with my own choices of laces and designs. The lace I ordered internationally. The hearts at the corners are made with rubber stamps, stamped with white ink on red paper to match the overall theme. The lettering was done by hand with a white colored pencil. I realized as I was finishing the card that there was no good way to write "Happy Mother's Day," since the front opens down the middle and "Mother's" on one side of the other would make the two words on that side of the center really bulky. So "Happy Mom's Day" it became. For my mother-in-law.

One year for Christmas, I took photos I had shot in family gardens (all but two at my mother-in-law's house) and made photo cards for my mother-in-law, giving them in a card box with a clear top. I also made a batch for our grown children, labeling the ones to them "Grandma's Garden" and using her name on the ones for her. Now a new batch is expected each Christmas, and she sends them to her friends through the year.
Don't worry, I won't be filling my feed with endless photos of crafts; I just uploaded a few of my favorites for those who might be interested.

A very detailed card made with parchment paper, this one was the work of several weeks. The sparkles near the edges and in the flower centers are clear beads hand-sewn onto the card. I used a template to make it, but it varies from the template in several places. I chose to sew it onto paper with little contrast from the parchment, and to use pale beads, to keep it subtle. I used this photo as the front cover of my own wedding album. (View large for more detail.)

The year I used these hearts on my annual Valentine cards, I made about 30 hearts in white parchment from this basic design, using a copper template for the outside design, but filling the inside in different ways (no two exactly alike). Various tools and templates, and my own designs, used in centers. Click on photo to see more detail.

I adjusted the photo for composition, traced it out, then traced it onto parchment paper. After tracing the white lines onto the paper with an embossing tool, I erased the pencil marks. Then I colored it in colored pencil on the back of the parchment to keep the card pastel and not the bright colors of the original.
Parchment must be attached with care, since most forms of attachment (e.g., glue) will show. It can be sewn, attached in an inconspicuous spot with double-sided tape, attached with brads or behind a decorative element . . . in this instance, I chose to leave the parchment piece free by slipping it under corner bars that held it in place, as an experiment. One of the fun things about cardmaking is doing something without being sure whether it will work, but trying it anyway. It didn't turn out perfect, but close enough to what I wanted that I'd willingly try it again.
