Flickr Lounge: one or two colours
The morning light showed on this seedhead in a lovely way, and the plants in the background offered a wide range of background colors, so I took shot after shot, changing the angle just a little each time to change the background. Here it ends up monochrome, with the background just the color of the seedhead itself, but plants in the background gave me several alternative colors, as seen in the collage below.

As we move further into fall, insects are fewer in number and more sedentary. I happened to see this grasshopper among the goldenrods, and though it moved enough to confirm it's alive, it made no attempt to get away as I photographed it. Possibly Scudder's short-winged grasshopper.

Wildflowers aren't blooming yet and I've seen few insects (and none at rest). But the remnants of last year's flowers are still pretty!
PS This isn't a flower with petals, but bracts after the petals have fallen and the seeds have been dispersed.
