Like many prey animals, rabbits are likely to freeze in place if they think they have been spotted but they are not sure, hoping their camouflage will be sufficient and they won't have to use energy to run away. I took two or three photos and then moved forward (parallel to the rabbit) a couple of feet for a less obstructed view. In all six shots, it is holding that blade of grass in its lips--that's how still it is.

By the look of its nose, I suspect it is molting, perhaps losing a heavy winter coat for a lighter summer one.

I love the alert pink ears. Two of these newly independent little ones were within a few dozen yards.
