This shot shows the lovely blue abdomen and both the outside and inside of the wings--with the same shade of blue on both. And a little bit of orange for a very lovely contrast.

Black swallowtails aren't particularly flower insects, so this perfect shot of a butterfly on open Queen Anne's lace, with closed Queen Anne's lace beside it, is extra special.

The large group of tiger swallowtails in the Smoky Mountains caught my eye, so I got several shots. This shot with a new insect coming in was my favorite. Notice the lone spicebush swallowtail in the foreground, lower left.
