Day 29/365; Week 4 Theme: Close to home (Jan 24-Jan 30)

It was very cold but the sun was shining, and this gray squirrel chose an exposed patch to crack open a nut.

Day 128/365

The black phase of the gray squirrel doesn't occur in a very large area of Indiana. (Michigan has more, but this was an Indiana squirrel.)

Day 135/365
Flickr Lounge: summer
CC: texture

On a walk with several good sightings, this sweet little squirrel was my favorite. I've never seen a squirrel with this much white, as I don't live in a region with white squirrels (southern Indiana). I think it's a young squirrel. I watched it for several minutes, watching for the best opportunities to take photos when its coloring was most visible. Its right side was whiter than its left side.

Day 250/365

This gives me 13 species of mammals for the year. Now if only the raccoon, otter, or beaver would show itself, or better yet the bobcat. I'd also like a fox cooperative enough to let me take its photo--I did see one, but not a great photo!
