Osprey nest, juvenile facing camera, mother behind it; the nest had one other juvenile. The nest was built on top of a house in a neighborhood, so they were quite used to having people watching them.

A hawk, presumably the male, flew to a tree and started calling. I was about to take his photo when I realized he had landed just yards from his nest, where his mate was installing sticks. Not wanting to alarm them, I took three quick shots and didn't continue along the trail. I didn't get any good shots, but that's OK; it was neat to see it.

The nest has two juveniles in it, though they don't show in this photo. They are young yet, with white fuzzy heads.

Day 130/365

The parents have been nesting in this area for quite a few years and are used to the presence of people. I didn't even see the parents today, but I went closer to the nest than I approached last week. (Zoom shot, cropped further.) I hope to get more shots once the juveniles are a bit older. The mother still seems to be staying on the nest most of the time now.
