Day 255/365

Probably grass-carrying wasp. It was cool enough that this wasp didn't seem inclined to fly (though it was pretty active in moving around on the goldenrod). Since it had such a cute face, I took several shots from the front in hopes of getting at least one I liked. This is the one I like.

Day 192/365

Broad-headed sharpshooter, Oncometopia orbana. Quite a bit larger than the typical little hopper (slightly more than a centimeter), and more colorful too. Only my second sighting of this species, and I was happy that this one was too cool to try to get away from me. One can find more insects in the afternoon, but they're often easier to photograph in the morning, and so I vary when I go out.
