Day 245/365

Photography rules should be understood, but then broken if it will make a good photo. One oft-cited rule is that the middle of the day is a horrid time to take photos since the light is too strong and it makes harsh lights and shadows. Yet the photographer who wants insects will go out when they are out, and often that means the middle of the day.

The noon whistle was blowing as I photographed this beautifully backlit chickweed geometer. I was out for a long midday walk, with noon smack-dab in the middle, and I saw five or six dozen species of insects and spiders, getting photos of most of them.

I rarely seen pollinators on this flower, but in this instance several flies were going from flower to flower, sometimes arriving two at a time at the same flower as seen here.
