One of the gnat ogres, less than half an inch long. Notice that you can see the facets of its eyes, especially when viewed large.

This fly is smaller than the black ones I've been photographing at this location and much smaller than the biggest robber flies. Still it was a lovely creature.

A third fly, presumably a male, flew onto the backs of a pair of mating gnat ogres (tiny robber flies) to try to get involved in the action, but he didn't stay long and I didn't get a good focus on this tiny scene.
