74/100 flowers with creatures

Dark form female. The blue was glistening so much I looked to take a photo that showed it at its best.

I've gotten way behind on posting insect photos because of so much focus on the ospreys (which still hadn't fledged as of last night).

The first week of August was far and away the most photos I have taken in any week of my life, and included six visits in six days to the osprey nest, at a spot that is also pretty good for insects. Not counting a couple hundred shots I took on request, I shot about 7300 photos the week of July 31 to August 6.

Day 258/365; Week 37 Theme: Patterns (Sep 12-Sep 18)

Flickr Lounge: photographer's choice

Even the antennae of this tiny butterfly have minuscule dewdrops on them, though it was impossible to get everything in focus in one handheld shot. Eastern tailed-blue, about 3/4 inch long.

A big part of the reason I enjoy the natural world is that it shows the handiwork of our Creator. As I was walking through a dew-drenched field with fog at the edges, I asked God for a resting dragonfly or butterfly. He gave me both of them: a resting common green darner and a dew-drenched tiny eastern tailed-blue. And then He also gave me a grasshopper, some spiders, a milkweed bug, and several ambush bugs, all wet with dew.

In the next few days I'll add shots of wet spiderwebs (including some enclosing teasel completely) and flowers, as well as shots taken in the same park when I went back later in the day to get creatures out in warmer weather. But for now I'm just uploading my top favorite "wet" shots from a gorgeous morning.

79/100 flowers with creatures

A new species for me. She was flying very busily among these wild peas, apparently laying one egg on each plant, and only landing for a split second on each. It took several minutes of trying before I got a shot. Finally she slowed down a bit in her efforts and that made it easier.

She is larger and greener than sulphurs I know, and her spot pattern is a bit different. My third new butterfly within a week! It would be nice to see the male of this one (plain yellow).

On floss flower, which rarely hosts butterflies that I see.
