This is actually much better camouflage than can be seen in the photo because it's much larger than life size and the insect is the focus. In real life, the hopper was on top of the flower and it darted underneath, taking up a position that made it look like part of the bract. Even knowing it was there, I had to look a couple times to verify it was an insect.

When I saw this on top of the goldenrod, I thought it was an orange assassin bug, but as soon as I started taking photos I realized it is quite a bit different from them, though with some similarities. Not yet identified.

I love the colors of this, and how at the very back of the insect one can see the flowers through the wings. I moved around to get the insect against flower bokeh rather than grass, thinking it would be a more unified image with better color.
