Wish me luck that I'll be able to see babies in this nest! It's at a fairly bad spot, close enough to the sidewalk and the parking lot that it's hard to take photos discreetly, yet at the same time that might make it easier for me in one sense (since she's used to people walking by). So far I don't know of anyone else who has seen the nest; I don't want anyone scaring this little beauty away.

After finding the small herd of young bucks I found a small herd of does and fawns coming back together. This fawn looks like one of last summer's youngsters, just a few months old, but he has small antlers. For now he's still with the "women and children," but he's on the edge and will soon be hanging out with the bucks.

Day 183/365: halfway through
Flickr Lounge: water
Muskrats have hardly showed up here over the last two years after work was done on the local drainage system. It's a delight to have them back. This was one of two that were feeding together for a while, possibly juveniles; it was one of three or four that we saw--a few yards from our back door and in luscious evening light.
