Flickr Lounge: Sunlight

The heron was patient, the evening light was pretty and the fall colors glorious. And the heron was sitting in a spot that allowed me to walk nearly 360 degrees around it, and get different lighting and different backgrounds depending on where I stood. So, for most of the next hour I worked to get as many different kinds of images as I could. A baker's dozen has been uploaded here. Interestingly, the heron is standing on one foot in all but the first two images I took.

Flickr Lounge: Sunlight

This one came out quite different. Walking a few yards to the right gave me a totally different background, a golden bokeh and a near silhouette of the heron. This may be the shot that made me decide to get as many different kinds of images as I could manage.

Here it isn't obvious the setting is fall. But I love the way everything else fades into the background. Also, we see something we don't see every day: the top of the heron's head.

Reflections of fall color, leaves of pond lilies (no longer blooming), and dried vegetation at the edge of the water form stripes behind the heron, as it stretches out its neck. Notice the foot curled into its breast feathers at the bottom of the image.
