One last shot from this sitting, because I can. I've wanted a shot like this for years. He chose a lovely perch and he was out and about in beautiful light. Male American kestrel, southern Indiana, USA.
I've been watching this kestrel since November 17, and have sought him out two or three times each week since my second sighting in mid-December. (He's in a spot I didn't frequent before then, and my second and third visits to the location were too early in the day to see him again.) With very few exceptions (one Saturday and two days well below freezing), I have always found him if I have gone to his favorite spots after 10:00 a.m. This was the latest I have gone looking for him, nearly 5:00 p.m., and I found him. If I count correctly, this was my 18th time to see this bird; he has been a good, reliable, and beautiful model. Now if only a female would move into this territory!

Day 184/365
80/100 action shots; 10/10 birds nesting
I believe that here the great blue heron chicks have started to tussle with each other while the parent prepared to unload the fish or other delicacies it has brought for its offspring. The parent's beak can be seen below the right wing of the bird at left.

Flickr Lounge: All Kinds of Weather (fog)
The turkey was ready to be cooked when I looked out and saw fog. So I took a quick break to walk out and get photos of fog at the pond. And from the bushes stepped this beautiful big buck. I was on a bridge (he could not get to me) and I was armed only with a camera (I couldn't harm him even if I wanted to). But we made eye contact for perhaps a full minute before he moved on, quickly but not fearfully.
