Le machaon, outre sa grande taille, se repère à son vol qui alterne planées et battements rapides des ailes : un grand seigneur qui se déplace sur de grandes distances et rapidement. Même quand il se pose pour butiner des fleurs, il continue souvent à battre rapidement des ailes sur place, pour compenser son poids par rapport au support souvent trop faible. Parfois, il se pose vraiment pour étaler ses ailes et se chauffer au soleil, faisant le plein d'énergie solaire si la température de l'air est basse !

The swallowtail, in addition to its large size, can be identified by its flight which alternates hovering and rapid flapping of the wings: a great lord who travels great distances and quickly. Even when it is posed for gathering flowers, it often continues to flap its wings quickly on the spot, to compensate for its weight compared to the often too weak support. Sometimes it really arises to spread its wings and get warm in the sun, filling up with solar energy if the air temperature is low!
