The south-western view of Tre Cime reflected in Lago Antorno under a windswept night's sky.

We'd spent the bulk of the day hiking around Tre Cime in the Italian Dolomites. The heavy snowfall of the winter of 2013/2014 meant that even on the last day of May the majority of the path was invisible under a metre of snow and so much of the hike was made knee deep in snow along steep ridges relying on GPS tracks. We hadn't planned on making the full round trip due to the weather, but the views were so enticing that we risked it, despite only carrying food for breakfast.

At the far end of the hike in the early afternoon and with our breakfast eaten hours ago, we dug into our emergency food (i.e. Snickers!) hoping it would sustains us for the hike back which we agreed would need to be fast with no photo stops. What we didn't plan for, however, was the weather improving on the way back which meant that by the time we got back to our car the sun had set and we were cold, wet and in possession of some awesome photos.

After a warm shower and big meal, everyone went back to our hotel to bed. I made the mistake of looking out of the window to see a clear night sky and knew that I would need to head back out into the cold. The others were too tired and cozy in their beds to head back out, so I popped on my wet socks and shoes and head back up. This effort was rewarded by this view shortly after midnight.

A farmer in the Arequipa region of Southern Peru works his fields in the foothills of the Altiplano.

This photo was taken on a memorable day trip out of Arequipa out to the Las Salina salt lake around 50km east of Arequipa. It was a gruellingly slow drive climbing 2000m over lumpy and windy dirt tracks that left us exhausted at the end and involved us having to break into our own car in the middle of nowhere...

Along the way there we spotted some farmers working their fields with the Chachani (6075m) mountain triplet in the background. I had to lie in the fields to get this framing and had to wait in the sun for a few minutes for the farmer to return over the cusp of the rise.

Although the air was cold and thin, the sun was very warm. When the wind stopped it burned and when the wind started you were chilled to the bone. This along with the lack of oxygen would have made this pretty hard work.

Narrow alleyways were the scenes of isolated clashes between Muslim and Buddhists.

Armed STF and riot police were forced to venture in to these areas in an attempt to control the situation.

Sighiṣoara is a town in central Romania with a colourful past. Its strategic location, which had been used by the Romans in ancient times, is one of several used as garrisons in the region. Initially a border town the King of Hungary had built up for strategic reasons, the town soon flourished and now is one of the best kept middle age towns I've been to on my travels.

One of the town's most arresting views is that of the Clock Tower as you climb up to the citadel through one of its southern entrances.

This photo took some work. It's a 3 frame panorama shot in landscape, but each of those 3 shots are made of several more so that I could remove the people walking up and down the pathway. What has resulted is a tourist attraction without tourists :)
